Greyhound mum and 6 pups rescued. Can you offer any of them a home? print email

One of the RescuePet shelters, Greyhound Compassion, wrote to tell us of their valient rescue of a greyhound mum and her 6 puppies. Can you offer any of them a home? If so, please contact Sally Slater at Greyhound Compassion on 01884 254727.

"The Greyhound Mum and puppies arrived on Saturday and I went to see them yesterday. The Mum is very pretty but extremely nervous and the puppies are just wonderful. Two are brindle, four are black and one of the black ones, the smallest, has the most wonderful appeal, there is just something about her. We think that they are coming up for 10 weeks old. Mary, who has a rescue in the Republic of Ireland, spent months trying to catch the greyhound mum as she had obviously been thrown out. It became a battle of wills as Mary could see her in the trees and, as she approached her, the dog would make off with Mary hot pursuit! She is full of stories about fields full of cow pats which, in her attempt to catch the dog at dusk, Mary became covered in on several occasions. We sent over a humane trap to try to help catch her before the weather got too cold. But in spite of temptations of steak, fresh mince and chicken all Mary caught was a labrador, Jack Russell and assorted cats."

"Eventually Mary could see that she was pregnant and it became even more urgent to try and catch her. Then she disappeared and Mary spent hours visiting local barns and sheds to see if she had gone to ground and had her pups. Just when we were giving up all hope of finding her Mary had a call from a local farmer. He had gone into his barn to get some hay and seen a puppy's leg sticking out from behind some straw bales. Mary went down to the barn and found Mum and 6 puppies - this was on 18th December. By this time, the Mum was happy to go with Mary and she took them all back to her house and they lived in her spare bedroom until they left Ireland on Saturday!. The Mum had mange and was fairly thin, but the puppies were healthy. She had here hands full with these on top of the 30 dogs she has in her house! But she has done a marvellous job with them as they are out going, playful and in beautiful condition."

"They have now been named: Molly is the Mum, then Joseph, Jacob the two boys, Star (she's the little one who has captured my heart), Angel, Tinsel (has a reserve on her subject to homecheck), and Holly. We are looking for really good, loving homes but anyone who takes on one of these beautiful dogs will have their hands full as Greyhound puppies are particularly demanding and very hard work, but worth it! Anyone who is interested should contact me. I am not yet sure when they can go, the vet is visiting today but obviously the sooner they go into homes the better for them (and for us as we have a lot of other greyhounds who also need homes.)"
